As the subject says, what is Black Sun and what relationship does it have in the Alliance? Do you think it would be useful to put some of the major non-Imperial factions in a post explaining what they are, where they operate, etc? This wouldn't just be useful for "new" players. This would also be useful for Seminars and PIs because we could update the posts to reflect their current status.

Black Sun is perhaps the largest non-Hutt criminal organizations, and is much more secretive than the Hutts, so most common people do not know who they are in general, let alone who's a member (and often they operate through gangs and other organizations they control rather than directly as Black Sun). So actually writing it out would possibly spoil new players surprise at learning their existence. Black Sun shows up a bit in Clone Wars and Rebels, as well as in the Solo movie, so it's a bit more new cannon than most things, though I believe they were in some of the extended lore in a few books as well, but I don't know how cannon they are to SPARKS as a result.
But other organizations? Not the worst idea, but it's difficult to track because some modules create (and later destroy) them, and posting that could also be spoiler material. It would also be difficult to gather as it would involve not only having GMs coordinate all PIs with each other, but people combing through every module written. I'm not saying it you have a bad idea, just that it would have likely been a better idea to have been tracking that somewhere when things started, not 300+ modules later.
There's several things I know as a GM/Fan that my PC does not know, and things in the game that are supposed to be a surprise to the player when they play, so it would be a logistical nightmare to coordinate all of it. So we're more likely to just deal with occasional narrative inconsistencies than list everything out. We're already operating in a made up sector with plenty of made up cannon already.

Thanks, Tim. You made good points. It sounded like an easy way to keep things straight since not everyone has access to the wiki. I don't think "occasional narrative inconsistencies" will cause that much of a problem.
I'd like to contribute to this board in some way so more people will use it. I have this idea for a post about making PCs and NPCs orphans since it seems to be a common thing in Star Wars (even before Disney). Something to stimulate some conversation.

An idea to build off this thread is to possibly make an "organization of the week" thread. Pick and org you've encountered in game and ask about it. State clearly at the top that it may contain spoilers so people can stay away if they've not encountered them and see what develops. Replies could be factual, in world lore, game mechanical, in character observations or a combination. Just a thought.

I'm all for additional discussions on in game universe and theories. In theory our characters have plenty of off time to talk, so why not do it here? I'll have to install some kind of spoiler tag too. To be fair, Wookieepedia is also a great resource for all things lore related. starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Black_Sun

I have this idea for a post about making PCs and NPCs orphans since it seems to be a common thing in Star Wars (even before Disney). Something to stimulate some conversation. It's easy to say "My parents were killed" as a motivation factor, as it both removes them from the picture and gives a character purpose. In fact, most character backstories kill, maim, or otherwise cause problems for off screen NPCs, because it's both easy and a useful story point. I mean, look at many classic super heroes (Batman, Robin, Superman, Robin, Professor X, Robin (I'm sensing a theme here)) the deaths of their parents/families are a huge motivating factor. Thor on the other hand has a different take, where family is just as important, but in a different role. And don't get me started on the "killed my wife" theme I know when I made Jerot, I didn't have a plan for my family till it got asked in a situation I needed the info, so I rolled (The Dice Killed My Dad!) and just went with it. It wasn't a major motivator, but I wove it into the character's backstory (that has evolved as I both learn the character, as well as what I learn about the culture of the Echani).

Spoiler tag worked... let's see what happens when it gets quoted as a reply. EDIT: It shows up correctly when posted, but shows everything while typing.
