I saw a YouTube video tonight about why ion weapons weren't used in the Clone Wars. You'd think they'd make perfect sense. There were some cannon reasons (range, accuracy, cost, etc) but it got me thinking, if an untrained person wore Trooper armor they have a DEX penalty. So I figure that means it's powered in some way because the Troops don't suffer that penalty. So what happens when they get hit with an ion attack? Does their armor shut down and they become immobile? Do they walk like cosplayer in a full suit? What about their helmets and comm systems?
Side question, how hard would it be to get something like chemical weapons past their armor. Nothing like a war crime strength weapon, something like tear gas, itching powder, or capsicum (the chemical that gives chilies their bite)? How good are their boots when stepping in engine lube (or other kind of lube but we won't get specific)?

first. lets clear up a common misconception, Ion is not an EMP, it doesn't affect all electronics, just vehicle and droids (cybernetics count as droids in some game systems). Second, game mechanically, stormtrooper armor is not "powered armor." The key difference is in powered armor (smasher armor, zero-G troops, DIRTMISSILE), these use the skill power-suite opps to avoid getting shot. Regular armor, like that used by the white helmets, uses the dodge skill. Granted there are some electronics in the armor, coms and such, but that don't make it power armor. As a unoficial rule of thumb, if you can move in the armor without power it's not pwoer armro. power armor requires power to ativate servos and such to function. Think of how Iron Man and War Machine can't move when out of juice.

To be specific, Ion does not affect stormtrooper armor.
As to chemical weapons/gas attacks, stormtrooper armor does specifically include a bodyglove and integrated breath mask which protect them from all gas/chemical attacks that dont penetrate the armor. They are not vacuum sealed, but about any atmospheric composition short of that they are good for. So even war crimes grade chemical weapons are not going to be effective when they have their suit on and closed up. (Now, if the atmosphere starts to eat through the armor, that's a whole different ball game.)

That's why you use ammo that pierces the armor.. So the gas can get past it!
