For all of you out there wondering, what am I going to do for the next week, 2 weeks, month, however long this "sit on our butt to save the world" thing lasts, I have a suggestion. Write a Sparks module. First time author? You got plenty of time and most of the members here are authors, judges and potential editors. Old hand? Now's the time to implement that idea you had. Wrote something "back in the day" but never submitted it to the council, cough *Matt* cough, now's your time to polish it up and send it in. Haven't written in a while but the bug's got you, take up the pen (or keyboard) and dust off those artistic GMing skills? Do it! You know you want to. I think the best way we as a community have to get though this is to look forward to a plethora of new materiel when this is all settled. To put myself out there, my goal is to have a draft of the entire LotE Master of Coins series before the April 8 lifting of the quarantine in Illinois. Is it ambitious? Yeah. Do I have a ton of downtime and my "essential" job I still have to go to? Also, yeah.
So I've thrown down the gauntlet; stay at home, save the world, write an event.
Who's with me?

Amen, though I may have taken this to an extreme.
(Goes back to either writing the other 4 LOTEs he committed to, or starting the follow up modules to 263 which hasn't premiered yet).
But once you need an editor, talk to the council. First time writers we prefer have experienced writes as editors, but for the most part, you can ask us for an editor, or we'll assign one if you just need one.
Some people like having editors to feel out ideas and help be a sounding board. Others prefer to simply have them for editing once it's done. Your call, though having a sounding board is never a bad idea.

I've got an idea percolating in my head, but I'm honestly going to need a lot of help to get it written down. I have a basic idea/goal for the players and a few key npcs but I have never actually tried to design a plot that goes A-B-C (I've always just made things up as I went based on what my players have done). I also have no idea how to proper stat NPCs or enemys.
If anyone is willing to give me a hand, I'd be willing and grateful.

I've now written 11 LOTE modules and 3 SPARKS modules (and published a DCC Module). I'd be willing to help, but here's where I'd start. Write an outline. A basic one at first, and then slowly add details in an outline format. Highlight any specific ecnounters or concepts. From there, you start to expand parts of it, till it reaches a module size. The big question is always how much you write vs how much you let GMs improv. If it's a linear story (nothing wrong with that), it'll be less improv. Sandbox modules will have more improv, because you need less specific details. If you want, you can message me and I'll pass my email address to you, we can talk about more there.

But I'm not on the Sparks board. You don't need to be. In my experience, I found I was more motivated to write when I wasn't on the council then when I was. We all have lives and can only dedicate so much time to Sparks. I find I enjoy writing more than other council activities.

But I'm not on the Sparks board. You don't have to be a council member to write a module. I wrote my first one mostly before I joined the council, and I wrote most of my LOTE modules before hand too. There are suggestions and rules on how to do it in the Judge's Handbook (available in the resources section of the forums), but once you have the module written, you need an editor (provided for you, or you get your own), you let the council know so they get a submission date for a playtest and premier, and its good.

Same here. IN fact, of the ten modules i've wrote, only Two iirc, were done while i was on the council a # of years back. All the others were done either prior to getting on the council, or afterwards.

But I'm not on the Sparks board. You don't need to be. *reads the subject of the thread again to be sure it was read correctly* You sure?

And that, boys and girls, is why we need editors.
